Understanding The Difference

Daal and Dhaal have the same body shape. The dot above Dhaal is the only visual difference, but it changes the pronunciation completely.

Important Rule

✔ Daal (د) and Dhaal (ذ) cannot connect to the following letter.

A small gap will appear after these letters inside a word. This is perfectly normal and should not be confused with a space between two separate words.

How to Write Daal & Dhaal

• When written by themselves, both letters are formed with a simple angled stroke.

• When another letter comes before them, they look similar to a curved shape with the left side open.

• Write the body first, then add the dot only for Dhaal (ذ).
